Firewall Extensions

Overview

We often run into clients using some extensions intended to act as a firewall, or other security measure. While these can be a good idea to keep your site secure, some extensions can cause difficulties with our Integration, often due to an inability to whitelist IP addresses. In this article we'll talk about this issue in more depth.

What Doesn't Work?

The main issue we run into with firewall extensions (and other similar security measures) is that some don't natively support whitelisting IP addresses. That means Modern Retail's developers and support team won't have access to your site, and it often stops the integration from being able to work for your site.

If this is the case, you'll have to disable the extension in order to make sure the integration can work. Alternatively, depending on which extension(s) you're using, you may be able to whitelist the required IP addresses; check out our article on which IPs you may need to whitelist, or get in touch with Modern Retail staff.

Which Extensions Work?

The viable extension we most commonly see our clients use is WordFence. As we know that this extension won't cause any difficulties when properly configured, we recommend using it if you need additional security.
